The Board of Directors of the Big Rock Blue Marlin Tournament in Morehead City, NC announced that their Lady Angler Tournament would be named in honor of Keli Wagner. This announcement was held at a press conference at the History Place in downtown Morehead City.

Keli was an avid fisherman and fished in all 11 past lady angler tournaments. Keli promoted the tournament, encouraged participation and played a vital role in having 100 percent of the proceeds donated to the Raab Cancer Clinic in Morehead City. Keli had received treatments at the clinic for the past eight years, but lost her battle with cancer in late 2008. All funds donated to the clinic are for patient comfort and care. As a tribute to Keli and her glowing spirit, big plans are in place for this year’s Keli Wagner Big Rock Lady Angler Tournament.

The Keli Wagner Tournament, sponsored by Alexseal Yacht Coatings, will kick off with a pretournament participants party on Friday June 5 from 6-9pm at the Crystal Coast Civic Center. Participants are encouraged to dress in team outfits with special prizes given for the “best dressed” in seven categories. Panyeo Steel will provide a festive musical background and local florist English Rose will adorn the party tables with orchids and yellow roses in honor of Keli’s favorite flowers. Keli did love her orchids, and the beautiful, fragrant roses she grew in her garden.
